Secret to my Body Beast Transformation

My Body Beast transformation was incredible, there is no doubt about that. I’ve gotten some of the best results I’ve seen in a 90 day time span and that’s because of my commitment level and ability to not make excuses (If you haven’t seen my results yet, just check them out below). However, it also has a lot to do with the knowledge I’ve gained about nutrition and supplementation while going through Lyme Disease treatment. So what’s the secret to my Body Beast transformation? That’s what I’m going to go into detail about below.

In 90 days of Body Beast, I ended up gaining 11 lbs, going from 162 lbs to 173 lbs. I also gained 4 inches on my chest and 1.25 inches on my biceps. Body Beast allowed me to gain my strength back after going through months of lyme disease treatment.

No Excuses

I did not have an incredible Body Beast transformation by accident. There were a lot of factors that played and important role in my results. The first one that I want to dig into is my ability to not make excuses. Even though my results were incredible, it was by far the biggest challenge I’ve had to face to this point in my fitness journey. Why? Because I finished up with Lyme Disease treatment right before I started Body Beast and still had quite a few after effects from treatment. One of the biggest issues that I faced was experiencing symptoms after my workouts. After going through 8 months of extreme antibiotic and natural treatment without the ability to work out, there were a ton of dead lyme bacteria just sitting stagnant in my muscle cells. When I started Body Beast again, I had many detoxing reactions because of the toxins being moved and released throughout my body. That included fatigue, dizziness, breathing problems, and pain. However, no matter how bad my symptoms became, I still pushed to complete my workouts daily. I understood that the only way for me to continue to remove the toxins was to continue working out, so that’s what I did. Plus, I wanted to show people the type of commitment it takes to succeed. Eventually after about a month of pushing hard with my workouts, my symptoms began to go away. Now it’s at the point where I believe I have removed just about all of the toxins in my body and no longer experience symptoms after working out.

In addition, there were a few other challenges I faced while going through my Body Beast transformation. All of them had to do with the fact that my immune system was completely beat down after months and months of constant antibiotics. For those of you who don’t know, the immune system lies in the gut. Antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria in the gut, so as you can imagine, months of antibiotics pretty much made my immune system nonexistent. I’ve been working hard repairing my immune system, but while going through Body Beast I had a few major infections develop. The first was in my ear and it got pretty bad. However, I still worked out. Not too long afterwards I developed a very, very serious MRSA infection on my face. I did have to take a few days off from working out because of the risk of it spreading, but I still stayed on track with my nutrition and picked right back up with the workouts once I was able to. There were no excuses. If you’re someone that has a hard time committing and makes a lot of excuses, go out and purchase the book “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David Schwartz. I am someone that doesn’t make excuses and that’s why I’ve had success with pretty much everything I commit to.

Proper Body Beast Nutrition

My nutrition was on point while going through my Body Beast transformation. I have to thank Lyme Disease for this because I was forced to make massive changes to my nutrition in order to heal. After reading quite a few nutrition books and doing an incredible amount of research online, I gained knowledge on what and how to eat to create a healthy system. But it doesn’t stop there. Those changes also had a huge effect on my ability to recover and build muscle after the intense Body Beast workouts. My recovery time during this round of Body Beast was by far the shortest I have ever experienced while going through the program. Sure, supplements played a role in that, but proper nutrition did as well.

First of all, everything I eat is organic. There is no going around this when suffering from Lyme Disease. It’s my job to eliminate the toxins in my body, not put them back in, which is what would be happening if I ate non-organic food. Pesticides and GMO’s are prevalent in non-organic food and those are not good for your body. When you’re trying to heal from disease, build muscle, or lean out, an organic diet is the way to go. Sure, it might be a bit more expensive (it’s really not as bad as you may think), but just think about the difference it’s making to your health. You can’t put a price tag on that. Trust me on that one. Anyways, while going through Body Beast, my nutrition was on point. My nutrition plan consisted of a lot of brown rice, white rice, sweet potatoes, almond butter, chicken, some grass-fed steak, lots of veggies, fruits, eggs, gluten-free bagels, coconut oil, and avocado.

If you notice, there is no dairy or gluten in that plan. Since beginning lyme treatment, I eliminated all gluten and dairy because of how it causes inflammation in the body. You might be thinking, “There’s no way in hell I can do that,” but it really isn’t as hard as you may think. Just eliminate milk, cheese, and bread. Instead of regular milk, drink almond milk. If you absolutely have to have cheese, try Daiya cheese. If you have to eat bread, there are so many gluten-free alternatives available at your local organic grocery store. There’s even gluten-free pasta, such as brown-rice pasta, which I think is better than regular pasta anyways. Getting rid of gluten and dairy foods doesn’t mean you have to stop eating the foods you love. If you’re someone that experiences a lot of bloating like I did, you’re going to notice a drastic difference after making this change.

Let’s talk about the macros while going through my Body Beast transformation. First, I’m 5’7″ and I was right around 3,000 – 3,200 calories per day. That was the amount that was recommended in the Body Beast nutrition guide. For the first few months I stuck with a 30% protein, 40% carbs, and 30% fat intake. Normally, I would be at 50% carbs and 20% fat, but I decided to increase my healthy fat intake to help battle inflammation in my body. This has not only made a difference in the amount of pain I experience, but I believe it has a lot to do with the lack of soreness I experienced post-workouts as well. During the last month of Body Beast, though, I changed things up quite a bit. I’ve always been a big fan of carb cycling because of it’s leaning out effects that it has on my body, so I decided to do a carb cycling plan during the last month to cut the body fat for my “after” pictures. I did 3 days of 0-1 carb per day and then a high carb day. Normally when I carb cycle, I will do 1 day of no carbs and then 1 day of high carbs, but I really wanted to take it to the extreme and have an outstanding Body Beast transformation. It sucked for those 3 days of low carbs, but it was worth it in the end.

Supplements for my Body Beast Transformation

I took in a ton of supplements during this round of Body Beast and I believe they played a HUGE role in my Body Beast transformation! When it comes to supplements, I’m very strict about what I consume. I make sure they are of incredible quality or else I don’t take them. That means I do a ton of research beforehand to make sure there are no added chemicals, toxins, or pesticides that could have an adverse effect on my health. After battling Lyme disease, there is absolutely no way I make that sacrifice. All the Body Beast supplements that I am going to list below are ones that I’m confident are good for me and of the highest quality.

First, I want to talk about the Performance Line from Beachbody. I’m a Beachbody Coach for a reason and that’s because I believe in the products. If they were shitty, I wouldn’t be a Coach nor recommend them to anyone. But Beachbody makes sure their supplements are of great quality that will help people truly get results. The Performance Line is no exception. Just do any amount of research and you will find that there is no added crap in the Performance Line supplements. I took the entire Performance Line during this round of Body Beast, which includes Creatine, Hydrate, Energize, Recover, and Recharge.

creatine-with-body-beastThe Creatine supplement is a creatine monohydrate. I actually just wrote an entire creatine with Body Beast blog post (click on the link), so right now I’m not going to go into detail about the different types of creatine or how it works. But I took 5 grams of the creatine supplement 20 minutes before I worked out with 8 oz of organic grape juice. The reason for the grape juice is because of how quickly and effectively the carbohydrates transfer the creatine to the muscle cells. I only took creatine for 2 months, though, because of the water retention and how it causes me to feel bloated. I stopped during the last month to lean out for my “after” pictures.

Energize is a pre-workout supplement that I’ve been taking for a while now and I Beachbody Performance Energizeabsolutely love it. I’m a big pre-workout guy and have tried many in the past, but Energize is by far my favorite. I take 2 scoops mixed with water 15-20 minutes before the workout.

Hydrate is a supplement that I take during my workout. It consists of important BCAA’s and carbohydrates that play a role in energy and muscle recovery. I actually combine it with 3 scoops of a supplement called MRM BCAA+G and sip on it throughout my entire Body Beast workout.

Beachbody Performance RecoverRecover is an incredible post-workout shake that I feel played a major role in why I experienced reduced soreness and how I healed so quickly. It consists of an excellent carb to protein ratio that is important for recovery. I took this directly after my workout and added 5 grams of pure glutamine to assist in recovery.

The last of the Performance Line supplements, Recharge, is something I took right before bed. The time when the body recovers the most is during sleep and Recharge contains slow releasing protein that helps with the recovery process. Just like with the creatine, though, I took this for 2 months and then stopped during the last month. For some reason I experienced slight bloating from it, but it was still very effective.

The only other supplement that I took was Shakeology. You can check out my Shakeology Review here, but basically it’s a dense nutrition shake that I use as a meal replacement. I actually combine it with almond butter and eat it as a snack in the evening. I did this while going through my entire Body Beast transformation, with the only exception being that I didn’t use it during my no-carb days during the last month. Important Vitamins

I got a lot of the vitamins from the organic food I eat and my Shakeology, but I also took in vitamin supplements as well. As a lyme sufferer, I was extremely deficient in a lot of vitamins so vitamin supplementation has played an important role in my recovery. However, I also believe they have played an important role in my ability to recovery from intense workouts as well. The vitamins that I took during my Body Beast transformation and continue to take to this day include Vitamins A, C, D, B-Complex, and pharmaceutical grade Omega 3.

Pushing During the Workouts

Time to move on to the workouts. Something that I feel is unique about me is my ability to push well outside my comfort zone on a daily basis. When I was going through the Body Beast program, I put in 100% effort every time no matter if I was tired or didn’t feel well. I tell people that I coach all the time that results come when you can push outside that comfort zone during every exercise. For example, if your mind is telling you to stop, try to get 2-3 more reps. However, obviously you have to be careful that you don’t injure yourself. If my mind is telling me to stop, I try to push for 2-3 more just as long as I maintain proper form while doing so. If my form starts failing, then I stop what I’m doing so that I don’t injure myself. You will be surprised, though, with how much you can push past that point where you’re mind is telling you to stop. That is where the magic happens.

Hopefully you now understand my secret to my Body Beast transformation and can have one hell of a transformation yourself. Body Beast Supplements to Put On Size

When it comes to Body Beast supplements to put on size, most people have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Right now I’m going through Body Beast and if you have no idea what that even is, it’s a mass building program by Beachbody. I’ve been through the program multiple times in the past and gotten outstanding results. However, this is the first workout program I’ve done since battling Lyme Disease and I’m pretty excited because of the amount of knowledge I gained about nutrition and supplementation. I have a feeling the Body Beast results I get this time around will be the best I’ve gotten yet.

It’s important that you don’t use just any supplement that’s recommended for you. Rather, only consume ones that you’re confident will be beneficial to your long term health and current goals. I’m using the entire Performance Line along with some additional high quality supplements. Below I’m going to break down exactly what I’m using, when I’m using them, why I’m using them, and some other things like taste and consistency.

Body Beast Supplements

Beachbody Performance EnergizeFirst I want to start off talking about my favorite pre-workout supplement, Energize. I’ve taken a lot of pre-workout supplements in the past and this one is by far the best I’ve used (Check out my full Beachbody Energize Review). Not only is it great quality, but it gives me an incredible boost that lasts the entire workout with no crash afterwards. And trust me, that’s important. With some old supplements I used to take, such as Jack3d and 1MR (which are awful supplements by the way), I used to crash hardcore, meaning I would be physically drained for the remainder of the day. I take 2 scoops about 15-20 minutes before my workout, and it usually kicks in within 10 minutes. The flavor and consistency are great as well. It’s sort of a tangy lemon flavor and mixes very easily. I haven’t gotten any clumps that I used to get with the old E&E formula.

Next, Hydrate is a supplement I use during my workouts. It contains key electrolytes and Beachbody Performance Hydratecarbohydrates that the body needs as you go through an intense workout. With my Hydrate, though, I also mix in 3 scoops of MRM’s BCAA+G supplement. BCAA means branch chained amino acids and they are important because they promote protein synthesis and prevent protein catabolism, which is just the breakdown of muscles. When you’re trying to put on size, you want to do everything you can to prevent the body from using muscle as a fuel source. The BCAA’s is a watermelon flavor and tastes excellent. The Hydrate is more of a citrusy flavor and tastes great as well.

Beachbody Performance RecoverAfter my workouts I take 2 supplements, Recover and creatine monohydrate. Both of these are part of the Beachbody Performance Line. I would also say that out of the entire line of Body Beast supplements to put on size, these 2 are the most important. I shake together 1 scoop of Recover and 5 grams of creatine and take it within 30 minutes after my workout. Recover contains additional BCAA’s along with 20 grams of protein and 10 grams of carbs to help the body recover from an intense workout. As far as flavor is concerned, out of all the Performance Line supplements, this one tastes the best. The one I use is the new orange flavor and it tastes like an orange creamsicle.  It reminds me a lot of the old P90X Recovery Formula that I used to take when I first went through P90X in 2008. With creatine, without getting too scientific and boring the hell out of you all, creatine basically helps you pump out more reps and improves recovery. Whenever I take creatine is when I notice the most strength gains.

At least 30 minutes before I head to bed I use the Recharge supplement. The time when Beachbody Performance Rechargeyour muscles recover the most is when you sleep. Recharge contains 20 grams of casein protein, which is a slow-release protein. It also contains BCAA’s and the two combined help aid the repair of the muscles during sleep. It’s vanilla flavored and tastes great. I just shake up one scoop with water right before I head to bed.

ShakeologyThe only other supplement that I take is Shakeology and you can read my full Shakeology review <<– here. Basically it’s a meal replacement that I now use as a mid-afternoon snack. I’ve been using Shakeology every day for just about the past 6 years. The one I use is the Vegan chocolate and I blend it with coconut almond milk, an organic banana, 1 tablespoon of almond butter, and ice.

And there you have it, the Body Beast supplements to put on size that I’ve been using since starting this round of the program. So far I’ve had incredible results. My recovery time is much quicker and I’m seeing quicker strength gains than I ever have before. P90X3 Results 4 Weeks

The new P90X3 workout program was released back in December and I had high expectations for it, but in all honesty I had no idea it would be this incredible! My P90X3 results so far are by far the quickest and best I’ve ever gotten with any Beachbody program, and yes, that includes P90X. Here’s a little review of the new program and what I like so much about it.

P90X3 Workout is Legit

P90X3 is an amazing program, there is no doubt about that. Everything from the design of the workouts to the simplicity of the Nutrition Guide, it’s simply a step above any other Beachbody program that I have ever gone through. That’s saying a lot, since I have gone through P90X, P90X2, Body Beast, Turbofire, Insanity, and Insanity Asylum. What makes it so great? First, how short and compact the workouts are. At just 30 minutes, which includes the warm-up, I can get in my workout and get on with my day. With 2 daughters, one a newborn, and an incredibly large Beachbody Business to run, time is extremely valuable for me, and anymore I don’t have time to fit in an hour plus workout. Even at just 30 minutes, though, the workouts are very intense, and there hasn’t been one that I have finished without a steady stream of sweat dripping from my face. These P90X3 workouts are TOUGH!

So let’s talk about the workouts. I’m following the Classic version (there is also a lean, mass building, and doubles version), meaning there is a nice balance between cardio and resistance workouts. I’ve never been a fan of cardio, but for some odd reason I really look forward to the P90X3 cardio workouts because of the intensity and how challenging the moves are. It forces me to push well beyond my comfort zone, something I’ve always enjoyed doing. My P90X3 results in regards to my cardiovascular endurance has increased drastically since I started the program 4 weeks ago, and I feel lighter on my feet, quicker, and don’t get winded as easily as I did when I first began. With a big snowboarding trip coming up soon to Whistler Blackcomb, I know that I have to be in a  great cardiovascular condition to do some intense snowboarding high up on the mountain where the air is very thin. I feel like I’m prepared this time and am really looking forward to the trip because of it. My favorite cardio workouts to this point have to be CVX and Warrior. CVX is probably the hardest workout I’ve done and is a cardio/resistance workout. I say that because the entire time you’re doing cardio exercises, you’re doing it with weights in your hands. By the end of the workout, not only are you drenched in sweat, but your shoulders will be on fire as well. Warrior is a great, tough, and fun cardio workout, where you do a lot of burpee like, core, and karate type exercises. It’s a workout that Tony Horton likes to do with the military when he visits bases around the world.

The P90X3 resistance workouts are amazing. There are a lot of body weight exercises like push-ups and pull-ups, but Tony also incorporates a lot of weight training as well, especially in the Eccentric Upper, Eccentric Lower, and Incinerator workouts. I just finished Incinerator today, and it’s a crazy combination of non-stop burn-out weight and body weight exercises. It forces you to push yourself to the limits, and that’s where the magic happens, where the results come from. My favorite resistance workout of all, though, has to be The Challenge. The Challenge is just non-stop push-ups and pull-ups. It’s very similar to the One on One 30/15 routine, where you pick a certain number of push-ups and pull-ups (30 push-ups, 15 pull-ups) and stick with it throughout the entire routine. By the end of the workout, you normally feel very shaky, exhausted, and like you just want to puke. That’s good, though, right?

So let’s talk a little more about my P90X3 results. I started the program at right around 166 lbs and currently I’m at 162 lbs. It’s just a 4 lbs weight loss, but I have noticed a MAJOR difference in my definition and how my clothes fit. My guess is that in just 4 weeks I have lost about 3-4% body fat. In all honesty, this is the leanest I’ve been since finishing up my first round of P90X back in 2008. My core strength, flexibility, balance has increased drastically since I’ve started, and the bad back pain that I was experiencing before I started the program is now pretty much completely gone. I can thank all of the core strengthening workouts, especially Yoga, to that. My wife’s results are nothing less than fantastic too, and she has gone from a size 10 pants to a size 5 in 4 weeks, which is practically unheard of! I have a feeling her results by the end of the 90 days might be better than mine. I will definitely be posting updates, probably another one coming in a  month or so.

Strawberry Shakeology Review

Strawberry ShakeologyIf you haven’t seen yet, Beachbody just came out with the new Strawberry Shakeology. It was just announced yesterday, but I was one of the fortunate ones that got a few samples in the mail, so I tried it after my P90X3 workout this morning. Here is my Strawberry Shakeology Review.

First of all, what is Shakeology? It’s a meal replacement shake that I’ve been taking every day for the last 3 years. In a nutshell, it’s probably the most nutritious shake that you will find out there on the market today. If you don’t believe me, do some research yourself like I have done, and there is nothing that even comes close to comparing. Anyways, I use it every day for either lunch or a post workout recovery drink. It’s something that not only do I take every day, but practically my entire family and friends do as well, and something I highly recommend to all of the people I coach who are looking to make a positive change in their health. Not only has it had a major impact on my health, but it has for everyone I have recommended it to as well. My dad lost 35 lbs using Shakeology and combining it with P90X, my wife lost 25 lbs within her first month of using it, my sister 25 lbs, and I could go on and on and on with Shakeology success stories. The Oh So Awesome Strawberry Shakeology

So back to the Strawberry Shakeology review. I decided to make it after my P90X3 Strawberry Shakeology ReviewTriometrics workout this morning as a post workout recovery drink. When I opened the packet, it smelled very similar to the Tropical Shakeology. I ended up blending it with an organic banana, Silk Unsweetened Almond Milk, 1/2 cup raw oats, and ice. Normally I add organic peanut butter to all my shakes, but I didn’t want it to mask the taste of the Strawberry. After I blended everything up, it smelled very much like a Strawberry/Banana shake, but the strawberry smell really stood out the most. When I tried it, I was very surprised with the taste. Just like with the smell of it, the strawberry flavor really stood out. It was an incredible taste, almost like putting in a handful of strawberries in the shake. Adding the banana was a good choice as well, really giving the Shakeology an excellent flavor. I would definitely put it up there with my other favorite Shakeology flavors, Vanilla, Tropical, and Chocolate. I’m really looking forward to trying new Strawberry Shakeology recipes here soon!

2014 Corvette Stingray Review

I just received my Corvette Stingray yesterday and wanted to take some time to write this 2014 Corvette Stingray review because so many people have been asking me about the car. Before I get into anything, though, let me give you a brief review of the events that led up to the purchase.

For the past 4 years I have been a BMW guy. I own a 2006 3-Series and owned a 2011 Z4 35i, which I just traded in for the new Stingray. BMW is known for it’s incredible quality, and that’s why I decided to go with both of those cars. The Z4 was my first “big” purchase, and it was a reward to myself for winning the Top Beachbody Coach Corvette Stingray Front End2010 award. When I first saw the car I knew I wanted to purchase it, and for 3 years it was an outstanding car that both my wife and I enjoyed on many date nights and vacations. However, back in early July I saw a picture of the new Corvette Stingray and instantly fell in love with the car. After reading a few reviews, I went ahead and pre-ordered a Black Z51 2LT with black rims, red calipers, black interior, with the upgraded performance exhaust package and transparent roof. For months I sat in anticipation and read through the Corvette Forums daily to learn about the car and receive updates on production. A few weeks ago I finally received the good news that my Stingray was produced, and just recently I got a call from the dealer that my car had arrived. My family and I went up to pick it up, and all I have to say is that the car absolutely lives up to its hype and in my opinion SURPASSES it! Here is my review.

2014 Corvette Exterior

Blacked Out 2014 CorvetteEdges and Angles. Pictures don’t do the Corvette Stingray any justice. Seriously, it looks good in pictures, but it looks absolutely INCREDIBLE in person! The new Corvette is much edgier than the previous C6 version, giving it a “meaner” look, and I can see how it definitely appeals to the younger crowd. Being 28 years old, I guess it worked. I love the C6, but the C7 has a greater appeal to me. There are a greater number of sharp edges and angles on the hood and side, and there are even some on the removable top as well, which I was rather surprised about. The front comes to a point rather than being rounded, and the 2 separate triangular points underneath the grill really gives the car a very sporty look.

Back End. The taillights are the most controversial part of the Corvette Stingray, but in my 2014 Corvette Taillightsopinion look fantastic, especially in person. I really like the direction that Corvette took with the taillights, again, giving the car that “edgy” look. Something that took me by surprise with the taillights, though, was that they aren’t flat, but rather they are almost 3D, with the center of the lights sinking in towards the car. It wasn’t something that I picked up from any of the pictures I saw. The tail pipes are much larger than they seem in the pictures, and after doing a side-to-side comparison with my father’s 2008 C6, they are quite larger than the C6’s as well. I also really like how they bunched them together and enclose them with the back bumper, rather than separate them and have them sit below the bumper. It gives it a much more elegant look. On top of that, they sound AMAZING when the flaps are open in Sport and Track Mode! It has a low, mean growl.

2014 Corvette StingrayTires and Rims. When I looked at pictures, I loved the black Z51 rims than came with the car, but I didn’t know if I would like them in person, and I even started looking at rims to replace them. However, again, after seeing them in person I don’t think I will ever purchase another set of rims. They are sharp, sporty, and have an excellent shine to them. The smaller front tires (19″) and the larger back tires (20″) give the car a nice downward, sporty angle as well. The only thing that I worry about, though, is keeping the rims shiny. I noticed that the brake dust really builds up quickly, so I’m going to have to wipe them down after every time I drive the car.

Headlights. This is another area that I think GM made major improvements on. The headlights are much sharper, edgy, and are much more luxurious. While driving, a bright, halogen like blue light can be seen reflecting from the cars ahead of you. The headlights remind me of a Ferrari’s headlights.

2014 Corvette Touch ScreenTouch Screen. The interior is absolutely fantastic. The first thing you notice when you get into the car is the touch screen that you can actually press a button and hide. When you hide it, a hidden storage compartment with a USB port pops up. It’s a great place to stick your phone, wallet, etc. The regular radio, XM radio, car settings, and bluetooth are all controlled from the touch screen. The only thing that I didn’t like about the touch screen is how hard you have to press to make it work. If you don’t like to touch the actually screen, though, there are manual buttons and dials you can use as well, which in some cases has proven to be easier.

Seats. The seats are everything I could have asked for. I got the leather GT seats and ICorvette Stingray Seats was immediately surprised with how comfortable they were. They are seats that you could sit in for hours and not have any issues with, which is good because I will be traveling with my Stingray quite often. The little Corvette emblem stitched into the seats is also a great touch. This is one area that I think GM made massive improvements with.

Audio. The premium Bose surround sound system is by far the best that I have ever heard in a car, seriously, and it’s one of my favorite things about the 2014 Corvette. I decided to turn up the bass to a notch over halfway (halfway is factory setting), and the car was literally shaking once a high bass song came on. The subwoofer is in the back of the car, and there are numerous speakers all Corvette Stingray Steering Wheelover the place. Audio definitely gets an A+!

HUD (Heads Up Display). This took a little getting used to for me because I have never had it before, but it’s a pretty neat perk. It’s a small display that’s projected onto your windshield that you can adjust to show you a number of different things, like speed, revs, etc. There are a few buttons and dials that allow you to change the display settings, lighten or darken it, and move it up and down, and it’s just to the left of the steering wheel.

Memory Seats. I actually just found this out, but in additional to remembering where yourCorvette Stingray Interior seat settings were, it also remembers a number of other different things, like steering wheel position and the position of the side mirrors. You can save the settings for 2 people.

Heated and Vented Seats. Even though I haven’t gotten a chance to use these yet, but the seats can be heated if you get cold and vented if you get warm. In my Z4 I always had heated seats, but never vented, and I’m pretty anxious to try it out to see if it really does cool you off. The passenger seat also has it’s own controls for the heated and vented seats.

Interior of 2014 CorvetteStorage Space. If you have the removable top on, there is quite a bit of room in the back for you to store your luggage. In my best guess, I would say that you could store about 4 suitcases or large duffle bags in the back. However, if you have the top stored in the back, there is barely any room for you to store anything, maybe a small bag or two underneath.

2104 Corvette Driving Experience

Shifting. I saw a few 2014 Corvette Stingray reviews that mentioned that it was very tough to shift gears with a manual transmission, but I definitely have to disagree. In fact, I would even go as far as saying that it shifts much better than my BMW Z4! For those of you who don’t already know, it’s a 7 speed transmission, and in my opinion 7 gears might be a little much and unnecessary, but it’s not a nuisance. I guess it would be beneficial on long highway trips, but I don’t think I will be using that 7th gear very often. Also, new to the Corvette Stingray is the Rev Matching. This is a pretty cool feature that has been added to the 2014 Corvette, and it is controlled from the paddles (look like shifting paddles) behind the steering wheel. It’s a rather odd placement for them, but it will just take a little getting used to. When the rev match is turned on, it automatically matches the revs for the next gear when downshifting. I have found it to be very nice while stuck in a lot of traffic. However, if you want the full manual transmission experience, you can shut the rev match off.

Power. As much as I wanted to get on it and stomp the gas pedal to the floor, I couldn’t because it’s so brand new. After talking to the dealer, I will probably wait until the car has at least a few hundred miles on it before really seeing what it has. However, just from the short time I did drive it, it’s obvious that it has an incredible amount of power and torque. I’m pretty anxious to have experience my first burnout with the 2014 Corvette, but I will have to be patient.

Driving Modes. I believe there are 5 modes (I might be missing one): Weather, Track, Sport, Touring, and Eco. I messed around with most of the modes and they are all very different, and you can feel it in the car. The track and sport modes are obvious, and they are for a more aggressive driving experience. What I like about those 2 modes is that the flaps on the NPP exhaust are kept open for the most part, and it sounds absolutely amazing. With the Eco mode, you can barely hear the exhaust. Once I use all of the modes more, I will update you with a better review of them.

The last thing I want to mention about the driving experience is that I was pleasantly surprised with how smooth it was going down the road, just as smooth as it was in my Z4, if not smoother. I forgot to add on the magnetic ride when I placed my order and was a little worried that it would be a rather rough ride, but the Z51 suspension seems to work very well. I definitely have no complaints about the ride.

Top Pre-Workout Supplement 2013

For the past 5 years or so I have been trying many different pre workout supplements, hoping to find the one that most effective and safe. I’ve tried Jack3d, 1MR, White Flood, Cellucor C4, NO-Explode, Black Powder, and Superpump, but I found something that I didn’t like about each of them. About 2 years ago Beachbody came out with a new pre-workout supplement called E&E, and I have been taking it pretty much every day since! It is my top pre workout supplement 2013.

Why E&E Is the Best

So what was wrong with the other pre workout supplements? Let’s start with Jack3d. From the research I have done, Jack3d has been on the hot seat lately and in the news because of it possibly being linked to a few deaths. I used to use it in the past, and actually liked it because of the crazy amount of energy that I got from it during the workouts, but stopped because of the controversial ingredients that it contained. I’m pretty sure it’s even banned in Canada now because of one particular ingredient, and I’ve heard rumors the U.S. is trying to ban it as well. I also didn’t like it, though, because I experienced a terrible “crash” afterwards. I would feel pumped up during my workout, but come an hour after I finished, all I wanted to do is lay on the couch and not move for the rest of the day. On top of that, I couldn’t stop sweating post workout. However, in the end I stopped taking it because I didn’t want to risk it something happening to me. Oh and also, if I ever took Jack3d in the late afternoon, I would have the toughest time getting to sleep that night! I would have to take it in the morning. When it’s all said and done, I would NOT rank Jack3d up there with the top pre workout supplement 2013.

Another one of the pre workout supplements is 1MR. I used to love 1MR, but the “crash” that I experienced after my workout was FAR WORSE than the one I experienced with Jack3d, so I stopped taking that as well. It was so bad that I would be completely spaced out for the rest of the day after my workout, not just tired. I felt like I got hit by a truck! However, out of all the supplements that I tested, it was the one that gave me the most energy during my workouts. If it wasn’t for the crash, I would put it up there with the other top pre workout supplement 2013, but that severely hurts its rank for me.

With the other pre workout supplements that I mentioned above, I had very strange reactions to them. With Black Powder, C4, and White Flood, I had TERRIBLE acne breakouts, something that I never experience, and when I stopped taking them, the acne stopped. I tried to figure out the ingredients that they each had in common, but wasn’t able to do so. In all honesty, they weren’t that effective anyways. With Superpump I would get bad stomach cramps during my workout, and that was enough to make me stop using it. NO-Explode was actually my favorite supplement to take before my workout for a long time, but they changed the formula for it and tried to make it more like Jack3d. Just like with Jack3d, I got that dang tingly feeling all over my body shortly after I used it. After doing research on that one, I stopped using it as well.

Anyways, I was excited to find out a few years ago that Beachbody was coming out with a new pre workout supplement because I absolutely love the quality of all their supplements. Their best supplement, Shakeology, I’ve been using every day for the past 3 years. Anyways, with E&E, I take it about 20 minutes before my workout and usually start feeling the effects about 10 minutes in (I just took it about 10 minutes ago so I’m starting to feel the effects now). My energy increases, I don’t get nauseated, and I always experience a great pump during my workouts, and that lasts the entire time. After the workout, I NEVER have experienced a “crash” like I had with the other workouts, and that’s great because I can carry on with my day without feeling like I need to go to bed! I have even taken it late quite a few times and haven’t had any issues sleeping. E&E is definitely my top pre workout supplement 2013!

When it all comes down to it, I would name E&E as the best pre-workout supplement of this year. There’s a reason I’ve been taking it before my workouts for 2 years! As with any supplement, though, ALWAYS do your research to make sure it’s safe and is high quality. As I always say, when it comes to something you’re putting into your body, quality is not something you want to sacrifice! Shakeology Samples

Shakeology Samples freeIf you’re wondering about getting free Shakeology samples, you’ve come to the right place. Back in March of 2008 I made a decision to start P90X for the first time. To be honest, I had some knowledge about supplements, but not enough to really know what was beneficial and what wasn’t. Looking back, I made a lot of mistakes with supplements, but you live and learn, right? Anyways, I just trusted the P90X Nutrition Guide and got the supplements that were recommended, which were the P90X whey protein and the Recovery Formula, and I got outstanding results with them. About a year later I had heard that Beachbody was coming out with a new supplement, this time a meal replacement, and that is was going to be called Shakeology.

When it was released, I had no idea what exactly it was, and the price scared me off anyways so I never tried it. About 5 months later I remember heading over to my buddy’s house, a fellow Beachbody Coach, and he had me try a Shakeology sample for the first time. Quite frankly, it was UNBELIEVABLE! He was in a similar situation as I was at the time, struggling with money, but yet he was still using it every day. I asked him about it, and he started explaining to me that he replaces one meal a day with it and that’s how he justifies the cost. We then started talking about how it would fit in my budget, and after we were done, I was convinced that I could make it work. How? I used to go out to eat every day for lunch at the time, spending anywhere from $8-$12, and I just started replacing those meals with single packets of Shakeology, which cost me about $4 per serving, so I was actually SAVING money every day! It made sense to me and plus, I knew that I was putting something into my body that was extremely beneficial and healthy!

Within the first month of using it I ended up losing about 15 lbs, 15 lbs that I didn’t know I could lose, and the only thing I did different was by adding in Shakeology into my plan! I then got Melinda (my wife in the picture above) on it, and she ended up losing about 25 lbs in her first month! At that point, I knew it was something that worked, so I started recommending it to all of my friends, family, and the people that I coach. My dad ended up losing 35 lbs combining P90X and Shakeology, my mom about 15 lbs, my brother in law 35 lbs, and my sister something like 25 lbs as well. P90X is a program that literally has changed my life, and it’s changed thousands of lives of the people I’ve coached as well. I’ve posted many reviews of the program in the past, and here’s yet another P90X review, this time coming from one of the people I coach, Nick!

Nick G.’s P90X Results

“I first saw the P90X infomercial in the summer of 2009. I just finished high school, was on track and loved keeping myself active. I ordered the program and was beyond excited, along with starting college, studying Nutrition and Exercise Science. I completed 30 days of it, until I hit a wall. One day of not working out became a week, then a month, and then over 2 years. Excuse after excuse. I ate like crap, lost my motivation and passion for anything really, let alone school. I let myself go, hitting rock bottom along the way. My relationships with friends and family and myself were struggling.

Now every now and then I would see Josh’s posts on motivation, goal setting, and challenge groups. It was always in the back of my head, knowing I needed to get back on track. The beginning of 2012, I realized that I was the only one standing in my way, and that I was the only one that could want to change, and make the change. I went to the gym one night, not planning on it; I just did it. This set the ball rolling. I kept going, setting the smallest goals for myself (going to the gym was a goal within itself at the time). I pushed on and the little things, one by one, kept falling into place. I can’t explain it, but they just do- do something good for yourself, and good things will in turn happen to you. School got better, relationships got better, and life got better.

Now I said before that P90X was still in the back of my mind and something I wanted to accomplish. I knew I needed help. I reached out to Josh, and never looked back. Josh put me into one of his challenge groups, and with the incredible support I received from the group and my family and friends, I started my first full journey of the program in late May. By the end of the first week, I was SORE. I hurt all over, but I knew I was going through the same pain as my group members. I embraced the pain; we were in it together. The workouts kicked my butt, with Plyometrics at the top leaving me in oceans of sweat. The second week was over. I was even sorer, but I felt never better, stronger than before. The first milestone I set was the 30-day mark- the first attempt a couple years ago was still clear in my head- how badly I wanted to pass it. Day by day, little by little, I pushed on. Of course, there were days where I didn’t want to even think of working out. Most of the time, I sucked it up and did them. I’ll be honest, I did miss a couple days, but I brought it even harder the next day, and made up for them at the end of my first full 90-day round.

The 30-day mark came and went. Within the first month, I lost about 10 pounds, which encouraged me even more. Then week after week came and went. I noticed that I became stronger. I received compliments and that gave me even more encouragement. At the end of the 90 days, I, like any other should, felt a sense of accomplishment. I set a goal for myself and reached it. I lost 25 pounds, from 195 lbs to 170 lbs. I never felt better, and my results inspired me to keep going, to never give up, to stop making excuses, and go out and make life the best it can be. My P90X journey made me stronger, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally, and has affected my life in so many positive ways- relationships became so much better, I was back on track and life was great again (it always was; it’s just we lose sight of our goals and values sometimes), heck I even kept up with the whole Plyo workout at the end.

My advice to anyone who wants to start the program, or anything in life really is this: no matter what your situation is, you can accomplish and achieve what you set your mind to. But most importantly, you are the only one that can determine a change and have the desire to want to improve. Stop letting all the reasons and excuses get in the way. Once you do this, it makes it that much easier to just do. All it takes is one step. Go ahead and take it, there is no one stopping you.”

Shakeology Tropical

After using Shakeology for the past 3 years, there are certain flavors that I like best. Which one tops the list? It’s real hard to say because I flip flop back and forth between Vegan Chocolate and Shakeology Tropical. Really, I guess it just depends on what I’m craving that day. However, for this post I’m going to talk about just the Shakeology Tropical, sharing my favorite recipe and talking a little about how I use it.

My Shakeology Review

When Beachbody came out with the Tropical flavor about a year or so ago, I wasn’t too sure what to think of it. I knew it was 100% vegan, which is different for me, but I’ve never been real into tropical flavored drinks. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve never disliked them, just don’t drink too many tropical drinks. Anyways, when I tried Shakeology Tropical for the first time, I was a little surprised by the taste. It’s not an overpowering tropical flavor that you would think of, but rather a subtle one that’s very easy to drink. In fact, it’s actually the one I like best with just plain water. Of course it’s better when you add some things to it, but since I travel quite a bit, it’s nice to have something that I can just throw in a shaker cup with water, shake it up, and drink without having to blend anything with it. The only thing with the taste that people will mention is a sort of chalky texture to it. No, it doesn’t taste anything like chalk, but the texture is a little strange because of the brown rice protein used in it. It doesn’t bother me any, though. Beachbody decided to use brown rice protein instead of whey protein so that they could make it Vegan.

How do I use it? For years I used Shakeology as a meal replacement for lunch, and the reason I did so was so that I could save money and eat something healthy at the same time. I used to go out to eat every day for lunch when I worked my 9 – 5 job, spending anywhere from $8 – $12, but it usually wasn’t anything healthy. After I started P90X, I needed to find something that could help me keep moving forward with my fitness goals, but yet replace my lunch so that I didn’t have to spend money on going out to eat. At about $4 a serving, it did just that, and I ended up saving about $4 – $8 every day, which is about  $120 – $240 savings each month. It made sense for me, and that’s why I did it that way.

Not too long ago I started using Shakeology Tropical as a post workout supplement. It’s got a perfect combination of protein and carbs, and also has a ton of vitamins and nutrients that are great for muscle recovery. If you want to add more protein (you don’t have to), all you have to do is add in a scoop of whey protein. I did that on occasion, especially while going through Body Beast where I needed the extra cals and protein, but I don’t do that too often. Anyways, it makes for a great post workout supplement, and it’s something that I’ve been doing more and more of, and I’ve definitely noticed great results from doing so as well.

Best Shakeology Recipe

I want to share my favorite Shakeology Tropical recipe with you all, so here it is. All you have to do is blend these together.

  • 1 scoop Shakeology Tropical
  • 8 oz. Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 1 Banana
  • 1 tablespoon Organic Peanut Butter (it makes it not as sweet)
  • 1 1/4 cup ice

There are some people, though, that like their Tropical to be very fruity, and if you are one of those people, you can replace the almond milk with orange juice, take out the peanut butter, and add another fruit. That makes for some tropical deliciousness!

I have completed a lot of home workout programs since going through P90X back in 2008, but there are only a few that I consider some of my favorites, and Insanity Asylum is one of those few. I don’t know what it is, maybe the unbelievable intensity of the workout, but I literally just can’t get enough! Enough talking about it, here’s my Insanity Asylum Review.

I love to push myself during workouts, I always have! There’s something about getting to that point where you feel like you can’t push any further outside your comfort zone, but then you force yourself to, and afterwards you feel amazing about what you were able to accomplish. This is how I feel every time I go through an Insanity Asylum workout! This is why I incorporate many of the Asylum exercises into many of the workouts that I do today, including Body Beast, which is what I’m currently going through. It’s a challenge, and I love a challenge.

What is Insanity Asylum? It’s a 30 day high intensity training program that involves both Insanity Asylum reviewcardio and body resistance training. It’s a workout program that branches off from the original Insanity workout, but is shorter, more intense, and more sports focused, which of course I love, being a former college baseball player. Many of the workouts involve jump rope and ladder drills, all helping with speed and agility. With all of the Insanity workouts, the traditional HIIT workouts are flipped up side down, with long bursts of high intensity training followed by short rests in between. Because of this, you can burn a ton of calories, and I have even heard of people burning more than 1,000 calories per hour. Needless to say, you will be drenched by the end of these workouts. Insanity Asylum Review: Speed & Agility

Let me share my Insanity Asylum review of one of my favorite workouts in the program, Speed & Agility. The warm-up itself is insane, and there’s a good chance you will be winded before the actual workout even begins. I guess Insanity workouts are notorious for that. Anyways, the warm-up consists of you doing jump rope exercises, but not just normal ones, ones that involve squats, cross jumps, etc. This goes on for about 10 minutes, and it can be very frustrating at first, especially if you struggle with coordination. It actually took me a while to get the hang of all the different exercises because I’ve never done them before. Next, it’s time to bust out the agility ladder. At first you do some normal agility drills, but as the workout progresses, you start doing ones that you’d never dream of doing, like Bear Crawls, where you literally bear crawl through the ladder, do pike presses when you reach the other side, and then repeat for an entire minute. By the time you reach the half-way point of the workout, you’re drenched and completely spent, and probably having a hard time catching your breath. Crazy exercises like this go on for a good while, and there’s a good chance you will have to pause it a few times like I did. When the workout is finished, you should have nothing left, and are going to make sure you take some sort of recovery drink, like the P90X recovery formula.

If you’re an athlete looking to increase your speed and agility and take your cardio to a whole new level, or just someone in good shape looking for a challenge, Insanity Asylum is a program that I HIGHLY recommend! Like I said, I was a former college athlete, and never in my life have I been challenged the way I’ve been challenged with Asylum. I can tell you one thing, I am stronger, faster, and quicker now than I have ever been in my entire life.
